Hi folks, I have a B7200 that I got used last year. Did a little work on it. Ran good.Used it it the fall with no problems. This whole winter never got to use it. Wont start. Starter started to drag, got it rebuilt. Turns over fine and smokes when its being turned over. Was going to use it this winter to plow snow but had to leave it parked and used the old cub cadet. Turns over fast now but then starts to drag after a short time. Still smokes when turned over. Charged Battery. Any Ideas Please Thanks

how cold is it where you are? you may have gelled fuel. Did you add any powerservice before you put it away? How long are you holding the glow plugs on?
I'd get some power service 911 and dump it in there. ....

If you are getting smoke when the engine turns over; you are getting fuel. Are you using the glow plugs prior to start attempts? Have you verified that the glow plugs are properly working? As I recall, my old L245 required at least 20 to 30 seconds of glow plug heat prior to start attempts regardless of temp. I am not sure if the B7200 has the compression release (I believe it does). The compression release can be used to aid start attempts during extreme cold temps. to help speed up the engine starter rpm during the cranking process and shut it when full rpm is reached. DO NOT USE ETHER! If you must use a aerosol start aid; use WD-40. You may want to consider installing an engine block heater down the road to ease cold weather starts. Check you owners manual for the recommended times for glow plug application and duration as well as the use of the compression release. I agree with the above suggestions to aid an anti-gel fuel treatment. You can also add about 1/4 to 1/2 kerosene by volume to mix in with your exhisting fuel in the tractor's tank. May want to consider buying #1 diesel for cold weather use in the future. ....

Now I feel real stupid. I hooked a jump start charger on the thing and it spun over a few times and started. I guess my main culpriut was the lack of battery power. I bought a regular 12V car battery and was using it. Do these diesel engines require a heavy duty battery of some type. Sorry to have bothered you guys over something stupid as a weak battery. ....

Don't feel stupid that is why this forum is here. Diesel do require more CCA that cars but the small engine that you have would not require much more that a V8 or V6 gasoline engine. ....

I have a couple of engines that barely need juice to start and other's that unless your battery is 100% they won't fire.
Just glad it started for you. ....
